This winter has been a BIG season for snowfall in nearly every part of Nevada County from the foothills all the way up to the highest peaks in the Sierra. Just in Truckee alone they've received 100" in 7 days and they're still digging out with another major storm set to take aim again this weekend.

Please remember to plan ahead, check road and weather conditions, be prepared, and expect things to be a little - or a lot - slower than normal.

Here are a few winter reminders:
1. Bring extra supplies, clothes, food, and water in your car and have a plan if roads are closed.
2. Be patient, drive slow, carpool, and make sure you've got 4WD or chains and good tires.
3. Only park in designated areas and expect reduce parking lot sizes. The communities are running out of space to store all this snow.
4. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid playing or walking under roofs loaded with snow.

Is this Nevada City's version of the Iron Throne from the Game of Thrones? Nope. It's the Pelton Water Wheel in Nevada City.

Instead of a normal water wheel that lets the majority of the water's power go by Lester Allen Pelton's version was designed so that when the rim ran at half the speed of the water jet, the water left the wheel with very little speed; thus his design extracted almost all of the water's impulse energy. And the first one was installed at the Mayflower Mine in Nevada City in 1878. #TheMoreYouKnow

Nisenan Tribute Bridge or “Anqkula Seo” spans a beautiful section of Deer Creek, connecting to the Environs Trail on the other side. Part of the Deer Creek Tribue Trail this is a great winter hike when you're waiting for other paths to dry out.
